Floatation Therapy Ranks #2 Most-Effective for Chronic Pain, Anxiety, and PTSD

We have designated floatation therapy as the #2 most-recommended method of therapy listed in the Ultimate Healing Guide.

The idea of using floatation therapy has been around for decades; previously known as REST – Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy, and we floated in a sensory deprivation tank. Those are some mighty fancy words made up by hippies back in the ’60’s. How about we just call it floating; we go floating  in a float spa.

Today, float spas are turning up in every major city around the world. While we could have been floating for effective self-care therapy in spas like these since the 1980’s, the AIDS epidemic scared the public away from public pools and bathing for almost a decade. This killed any floatation-as-therapy industry before it even got started.

With today’s ozone-filters and triple-filtration systems, public float spas can regenerate their cleanliness between sessions to remove skin cells, hair and bacteria using modern equipment. Due to the nature of strong demand in this rapidly growing industry, sleek-looking custom float pods with self-cleaning capabilities are now being manufactured and installed into the newest spas in many areas of a city near you.

Floating Helps With:

If you have PTSD (1), anxiety(2), fibromyalgia (3)(4), chronic pain (5), headaches(6), stress(7), or any other non-optimal symptom, including mental health treatment(8), floating can benefit you.

Seriously, find yourself a float tank and get in there until you have a breakthrough!

Floating Gives You:

Focus, inner calm, flow state, peace of mind, peak performance, self-healing powers, reduction of stress, reduction of anxiety, reduction of pain, and restoration of belief in yourself.

Immensely deep relaxation

Floating has become the #1 most-effective method for many who have experienced success with relieving chronic pain. Where the heck has this been  all our lives? What a beautiful and affordable way to ease our suffering and awaken!

This method of self-therapy will help you start healing faster than almost every other therapy modality out there too. Only one other modality listed in the Ultimate Healing Guide ranks higher for its more aggressive (but less practical) approach: the more-extreme Wim-Hof Method.

Harmonious bliss for both self and mindbody: that’s where floating can take you. Quite possibly the quickest way to a better you; that’s floatation therapy in a nutshell. You don’t need a doctor to give you permission to experience this incredible modality, so find a float tank spa nearby and try it for five floats of 60 minutes or more before you make an evaluation.

You should go into a float session with the idea that you are entering into what could be the most comfortable and safest space you could possibly imagine. Think of it as a place where you can feel at ease enough to disconnect from the world and become disembodied into a wonderfully peaceful, meditative state of mind. There in that float tank, you are safe.

This is where self-healing begins. A relationship between self+bodymind develops quickly. Self-awareness shoots through the roof!

Floatation will provide you with improved creativity, flow state, and self-healing. Floating will help synchronize your brain hemispheres (which is good), calm the chatter in your mind, and provide you with a sense of deep relaxation at the cellular level throughout your entire body.

If you are lost, you may even find yourself.

Floating offers something for everyone

There’s something for everybody when it comes to floatation.  Spiritualists can imagine floating in the palm of God’s hand during a float experience, and materialists will get amped about floating inside a matrix-like force-field of balanced energies.

Whether we tap the power of our faith or the power of imagination, self-healing during floatation therapy is available to those who reach for it.

For Spiritualists

If you’re seeking a spiritual journey or seeking God within your float experience, then there can’t be a more comforting metaphor than to imagine what it might feel like to lay in the palm of God’s hand as you float. If you take such imagery into a float session with you, you’re much more likely to experience the mind-body-spirit benefit you’re hoping to get out of it. If you could imagine yourself in the palm of God’s hand, it is probably easier then to imagine being healed. SO… open yourself to the miracle of healing!

For Materialists

As the Earth continues its journey around the Sun, the Milky Way Galaxy continues to spiral with us in it, and by the time you step out, the location in space where you were when you entered is countless millions of miles away. If embracing the feeling of being in “The Matrix” where physical reality is a manifestation of your consciousness, then try this: imagine that while you’re in the tank, you’re being made whole again by trillions of atomic interactions between the minerals within the water and the oxygen molecules within every breath! When you step out of the tank, imagine that you will be more whole  than when you went in.

The first vision – self-healing through faith – has been scientifically proven to increase your odds.

Patients with pain use a number of cognitive and behavioral strategies to cope with their pain, including religious/spiritual factors, such as prayers, and seeking spiritual support to manage their pain.

Research on the biology and neurobiology of pain has given us a relationship between spirituality and pain. There is growing recognition that persistent pain is a complex and multidimensional experience stemming from the interrelations among biological, psychological, social, and spiritual factors.

Spirituality and Religion in Pain and Pain Management

The second vision is scientifically true; we float suspended within an electromagnetic field of strong and weak forces associated with the interaction between the atoms of our bodies, the water, Epsom salts, the air, plus the forces of gravity and buoyancy. We’re traveling millions of miles and yet somehow we remain suspended and motionless.

It doesn’t matter who you are, it feels amazing.

What you should get out of it

As the awareness processing unit (APU) and central command for all body systems, our brain uses the fast-as-light electrical network of the central nervous system to send out signals to the rest of our bodymind systems. These systems include our digestion, our immunity, and cellular function. Cell function switches between, for instance, whether the cells should work or sleep. All this happens autonomously and without our awareness.

We might live in pain and suffer seemingly endless agony. We might live with the anxiety that makes us think we’re going crazy, and makes other people around us mad too. And so far, there haven’t been many reliable ways to calm ourselves down. We take drugs and go on drinking binges in attempts to distance ourselves from this pain and madness.

If we’re forcing our body to continuously digest because we’re overeating or continuously filter an overload of toxins because we’re popping so many pills, when do your cells ever have time to rest and repair? It’s an endless cycle which tends to lead one to bouts of despair or depression.

What if you could reliably achieve bliss with relatively little effort in an affordable manner, floating somewhere close to home? Would you do it? You should, because there’s so much to be gained. Self-healing comes within easier reach. Self-healing becomes more believable.

What happens to our brain, body, and mind when we float

When we want to reduce our pain, anxiety, and stress, what we’re after is for our body to calm down (which includes the brain); we want our thoughts to wind down, we want our heart relaxed, and we want the cells of our tissues to release tension.

The point of this is that once we’re all calmed down, our brain waves slow down into Alpha waves (peaceful, maybe daydreaming or falling asleep) and Theta waves (dreaming, problem-solving in our sleep). Scientific evidence and personal experiences shared online have repeatedly mentioned that floating is the fastest way to experience these stages of consciousness reliably.

Through judicious use of floatation therapy, you will arrive at brainwave states where your body switches on your natural healing facilities. Your repair mechanisms engage during floatation mainly because you are there with the explicit intention  of encouraging that very thing to happen. Also, because your brain is no longer required to process external stimuli such as vision and hearing.

The place we are looking for during floatation has been compared to lucid dreaming.

How to engage yourself with floating as therapy

Your bodymind remembers your worst fears and traumas. If you care to tap that bodymind for a release of trauma, the tank is a great way to go, especially if you’ve already had practice being with your thoughts for lengths of time. If not, you should start in shorter increments of time to avoid panic and achieve the sensation that you’re safe there, where you are in that dark tank, without being able to see.

The fastest way to allow your bodymind to release chronic stressors is floating in a dark and quiet tank, in water that’s skin-temperature, for at least an hour, and at least five times in a row. Some folks do not reach the “depth” of relaxation desired until floating 2 hours per session. Commit to (10) 2-hour sessions, and use them once per week. After you’ve done this for at least 10 hours, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

Almost anyone with chronic pain, anxiety, or stress can benefit significantly from a whole block of floating time. Since you’re floating in Epsom salts the entire time, it may help relieve insomnia or other chronic illness.

After a float session, you’re likely to be more relaxed than anything you’ve ever done before. Maybe sitting on that beach or snorkeling on that hot tropical day was pretty dang relaxing, away from your daily grind, sure! But after floating, you can’t help but feel better about yourself. Your inner fire gets stoked, you start feeling ambitious, and all the problems you thought you had before you went in will seem to have melted away.

A note to Veterans

You can get into a home float tank for less than $2900. The Zen Float company offers veterans a 10% discount.

The cost of floating at a spa

To float at a local float spa, you can expect to pay similar prices to a massage therapy session, but you can probably make a deal when buying blocks of hours over the single-session rates. Expect to pay anywhere from $45 per hour mid-country, to $150 per hour on the coasts or at premium service floatation spas. However, since there is no therapist to tip, float therapy should be lighter on your wallet than other forms of therapy.

Floating turns our awareness inward for self-healing

When we’re entranced, mesmerized or even hypnotized by anything that gets us to a place where we feel dreamy and light, our powers of mind over pain escalate by leaps and bounds. Once arriving in Alpha or Theta state, while still in a waking state-of-mind, laying there floating, peaceful, blissful, you’ll find yourself able to heal your body, and heal your thoughts. Without having your body-mind overloaded by processing information from your eyes and ears and maybe even your thoughts, conscious processing power can turn towards aspects of your life which are essential to you or which may require healing.

Eliminating your chronic pain, anxiety, and stress require your awareness for self-healing to take place. Letting go of that ache in your neck or shoulders becomes easier. Floating, buoyant and without impingement anywhere on your body, you are free to resolve your deepest worries, fears, pains, and traumas. You can allow yourself to come face to face with the emotionally and physically painful events in your life which still live with you in your body today and let them go.

Floating will get you into a healing state.

Think About This

A terminal diagnosis forces one to confront the struggle between life and death. If there’s still time, do we need to let it get that far before we forgive ourselves and others?

A new relationship between your body, mind and self will change your perspective of yourself and the world.
